7.2.4 Plan to reduce energy consumption

SWU has implemented a comprehensive plan to reduce energy consumption across its campuses, focusing on both infrastructure improvement and behavioral change. Key actions include:

  • Installation of automatic lighting control systems to manage the on/off schedule of lights in both indoor and outdoor areas, ensuring appropriate and efficient energy use.

  • Upgrading air conditioning systems to energy-saving models in academic and central buildings.

  • Installation of solar cell systems on selected buildings to generate renewable energy for on-campus use.

  • Replacement of all lighting fixtures with LED bulbs throughout university buildings to enhance energy efficiency.

  • Energy-saving awareness campaigns promoting responsible electricity use — such as turning off air conditioners and lights when not in use.

  • Demonstration and display of solar energy systems to educate students and staff about clean energy technology.

These initiatives reflect the university’s ongoing commitment to sustainable energy management and its goal of minimizing environmental impact through innovation and awareness.
