6.5.7 Promoting conscious water usage in the wider community

Enhancing Knowledge and Building a Network of Subdistrict Community Councils for Communicating Community Rights and Water Resource Management

Recognizing the importance of effective water conservation, Srinakharinwirot University has promoted conscious and efficient water usage across communities through the same model project on “Community Council Communication for Water Resource Management in Suphanburi Province.”

The project aims to enhance digital literacy and community understanding of water management. Workshops were organized to build a network of community information leaders who can monitor water situations and apply digital tools. Training sessions included practical exercises such as monitoring water conditions via Thaiwater.net and using digital mapping for natural resource and disaster management.

One of the key activities was community water pathway mapping, which encouraged participation from local residents and subdistrict administrative organizations in communicating their rights and responsibilities in water management. The activity also promoted broader community awareness through knowledge exchange among local networks.

The development of information systems to support community rights communication revealed that each participating area initiated subdistrict-level water maps and local water management plans. Community councils served as knowledge leaders, disseminating information to other members and local farmers. These tools have enhanced the responsiveness of local agencies to public needs and strengthened community-level awareness and preparedness regarding water resource management.
