Enhancing Knowledge and Building a Network of Subdistrict Community Councils for Communicating Community Rights and Water Resource Management
Srinakharinwirot University emphasizes the role of education in promoting sustainable water management and community empowerment. Through the project “Community Council Communication for Water Resource Management in Suphanburi Province,” the university integrates water resource management with educational activities that enhance both digital literacy and environmental awareness among local communities.
The initiative focuses on developing knowledge and skills through participatory workshops and hands-on learning. Training sessions covered digital tools for water monitoring, including the use of Thaiwater.net and digital mapping technologies for managing natural resources and assessing water-related risks. Participants, consisting of community leaders and local residents, engaged in interactive exercises that linked theoretical understanding with real-world applications.
A key educational activity was community water pathway mapping, which encouraged participants to learn about watershed systems, analyze local water issues, and communicate community rights and responsibilities in water resource management. This participatory approach not only strengthened local water governance but also served as an experiential learning platform that promoted collaboration between the university and the community.
As a result, each participating area developed subdistrict-level water maps and local water management plans, demonstrating the success of education-driven capacity building. Community councils, empowered as knowledge leaders, now act as educators and facilitators, sharing knowledge with farmers and residents. These outcomes highlight how the university’s educational outreach contributes to sustainable water management through knowledge dissemination, digital innovation, and community-based learning.
