2.5.1 Access to food security knowledge

Community Academic Service Project of College of Creative Agriculture for Society (CCAS)-2024

Academic service is one of the key missions of CCAS. The College emphasizes the integration of academic services with its missions in teaching and research in a systematic manner.

In the fiscal year 2024, the College initiated the “Community Academic Service Project of CCAS”, utilizing its two campuses; Sa Kaeo Province and Nakhon Nayok Province, as learning and service areas. These sites serve as learning hubs for students, local communities, and society, as well as centers for the College’s academic services.

The project focuses on transferring knowledge and technologies derived from faculty research, integrating them into teaching and responding to the needs of local communities. The implementation emphasizes appropriateness and practical applicability, ensuring outcomes that are consistent with the missions of both the College and the University.

SDG 2.5.2 Events for local farmers and food producers-2024

In Fiscal Year 2024, CCAS implemented two agricultural-related projects for local community development. These projects aimed to strengthen food security, promote agricultural technology, and enhance sustainable farming practices for local farmer communities. 1. Community Academic Service Project to Promote Organic Agriculture in Sa Kaeo and Nakhon Nayok Provinces The project transferred knowledge and skills in organic and safe crop production to farmers, local communities, and students, while also establishing demonstration plots as learning sites and models. As a result, all 50 participants successfully completed the training and gained practical knowledge applicable to reducing production costs, increasing income, and developing local organic products. In addition, networks of collaboration with two communities and schools were established, with strong interest and support from community leaders and school administrators. These outcomes enhance the potential for scaling up towards model communities for sustainable alternative agriculture.

2. Microgreens as an Alternative: A Survival Path for Thai Farmers in Bang Pla Kot Subdistrict, Ongkharak District, Nakhon Nayok Province Farmers and local communities gained knowledge in producing pesticide-free microgreens, which can be practically applied for household consumption as well as further developed into supplementary occupations. The project also fostered the creation of farmer networks in the area and promoted value addition through production and processing of local vegetables. In addition, all participants successfully completed the training as required, resulting in one prototype product, while the initiative received strong interest and support from community leaders, enhancing opportunities for future community-based enterprises. This project not only helped reduce production costs for farmers but also created new income-generating alternatives and laid the foundation for communities to advance toward sustainable modern agriculture.
