17.2.1 Relationships with regional NGOs and government for SDG policy

In 2024, Srinakharinwirot University played an active role in supporting national SDG policy processes through the participation of Assoc. Prof. Poom Moolaslip, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, who served as a member of the Sub-committee on Monitoring, Advising, and Accelerating National Reform and Implementation of the National Strategy on Human Rights, Liberties, and Consumer Protection, under the Senate of Thailand. Within this capacity, he conducted a field-based research project titled “สภาองค์กรชุมชนตำบลต้นแบบด้านการสื่อสารสิทธิชุมชนกับการจัดการทรัพยากรน้ำในพื้นที่จังหวัดสุพรรณบุรี” (Model Tambon Community Organizations for Communication of Community Rights and Water-Resource Management in Suphan Buri Province).

This research was carried out in collaboration with the Presidents of Tambon Community Organizations and local representatives from several subdistricts in Suphan Buri, emphasizing participatory approaches that strengthened communication between communities and local authorities. The study investigated how community councils could act as intermediaries in asserting community rights to fair and sustainable water-resource management, while also addressing inequalities and environmental challenges. Through workshops, dialogues, and participatory assessments, the research collected multi-level perspectives—from local leaders, government officials, and civil society networks—to identify barriers and co-develop solutions aligned with human-rights principles and sustainable development.

The findings were later compiled in the five-year summary report (2019–2024) of the Sub-committee and formally submitted to the Thai Senate as part of the national reform and strategy-monitoring process. This collaboration demonstrates the university’s direct contribution to policy-oriented SDG engagement, particularly in promoting community empowerment, participatory governance, and human rights in resource management, reflecting Thailand’s progress toward SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
