Alien Species Impact Reduction (Policies)

Srinakharinwirot university (SWU) has implemented a comprehensive environmental policy aimed at minimizing the impact of alien species on campus ecosystems. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 15: Life on Land, which emphasizes the conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.

To fulfill its commitment to sustainability, SWU has adopted the following policy directions and measures:

1. Ecosystem Conservation and Restoration:
   SWU supports activities that focus on the conservation, rehabilitation, and sustainable use of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, and wildlife habitats.

2. Biodiversity Protection:
   SWU promotes research and projects that monitor and safeguard biodiversity, prioritizing the protection of endangered and vulnerable species under the IUCN Red List, as well as those protected by national legislation.

3. Control and Management of Invasive Alien Species:
   Specific measures have been established to identify, control, and manage invasive alien species and conflict species within the university premises, preventing their spread and mitigating ecological harm.

4. Green Space and Carbon Management:
   SWU preserves natural green areas, maintains existing trees, and initiates reforestation programs to enhance carbon sequestration, with a goal to increase carbon absorption by at least 10%.

5. Collaborative Conservation Efforts:
   Partnerships are promoted among local communities, academic institutions, and international networks to strengthen cooperation in conserving and restoring ecosystems, ensuring the sustainable use of biological resources through collective participation.

Through these actions, SWU demonstrates a strong commitment to reducing the ecological and biodiversity impacts of alien species while promoting a sustainable and resilient campus environment.
