15.2.5 Sustainable management of land for agriculture (educational outreach)

Srinakharinwirot University demonstrates sustainable management of agricultural land through the community herbal garden operated by the Faculty of Pharmacy in Nakhon Nayok province. Established on 23 rai of formerly degraded, acidic land allocated under the Agricultural Land Reform programme, the site has been rehabilitated into an organic medicinal plant garden and learning centre for local farmers, older adults, students and the wider community. The garden integrates sustainable practices such as using compost from leaf litter, biological pest control, on-farm propagation of indigenous medicinal species and low-input cultivation methods, while also serving as a living laboratory for pharmacy students. Each year, the garden organises trainings and outreach activities on safe and effective use of herbs, household cultivation of medicinal plants and simple value-added processing, encouraging communities to manage land and plant resources in ways that support both ecological restoration and primary health care.
