15.2.2 Sustainably farmed food on campus

Srinakharinwirot University, through Bodhivijjalaya College, implements activities related to sustainably farmed food on campus. The College drives academic service initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, food security, and sustainable agriculture. In FY2024, two agricultural programmes were implemented to strengthen local food system resilience, promote modern agricultural technologies, and enhance sustainable agricultural practices among farmers, students, and university personnel. These initiatives served as a foundation for improving the capacity of local food producers and ensuring access to knowledge, technology, and resources for sustainable production and better quality of life.

CCAS FARM – Organic Agriculture Learning Space
The organic agriculture learning centre (CCAS FARM), operated by Bodhivijjalaya College, is a key initiative that directly contributes to sustainably farmed food on campus. The project established demonstration facilities for organic lettuce cultivation and organic rice production in Sakaeo Province. A total of 37 participants (students, teachers, academic staff and university personnel) received hands-on training and knowledge transfer on sustainable agriculture practices, promoting awareness and application of organic farming and safe food production. Agricultural produce from the farm is distributed to college personnel for consumption to strengthen sustainable food security and improve adaptive capacity to climate change impacts.

Key learning activities integrate both theory and practice, including:

  1. Awareness building through lectures on “Organic Agriculture Made Easy”, focusing on chemical-free farming, avoiding residue contamination, and how to distinguish organic agricultural inputs; and

  2. Training in organic input management, including soil component analysis, application of beneficial microorganisms for disease control and plant health, and hands-on organic soil mixing activities.
