14.4.1 Water discharge guidelines and standards
Srinakharinwirot University operates under formal guidelines and standards for wastewater and water discharge, requiring that effluent from campus buildings is treated before being released into the municipal drainage system or natural receiving waters. Wastewater from facilities such as canteens, dormitories and laboratories is directed to treatment systems designed to reduce key pollutants, and the quality of treated water is managed in line with national Thai effluent standards for institutional wastewater.
In addition to operational guidelines, SWU also contributes academic expertise to sustainable wastewater management. Asst. Prof. Dr. Suthida Tepruksa published a book chapter entitled “Municipal wastewater treatment processes for sustainable development” in Integrated and Hybrid Process Technology for Water and Wastewater Treatment (Elsevier, August 2021), which examines integrated and hybrid wastewater treatment systems and their application to different municipal wastewater streams. This research supports the development of more effective and sustainable treatment processes and provides a technical foundation for improving wastewater quality management and discharge practices both within the University and in wider urban contexts.
