14.3.4 Technologies towards aquatic ecosystem damage prevention (direct work)

Srinakharinwirot University works directly with practical technologies and practices that help prevent damage to aquatic ecosystems through its “SWU Together for Good” initiative. As part of this programme, SWU staff and alumni participated in the design and installation of artificial “fish homes” in coastal waters to support the restoration of coral reef areas and create additional habitat for marine organisms. These artificial reef structures function as a low-impact technology to stabilise damaged seabed areas, provide shelter and breeding grounds for fish and invertebrates, and reduce pressure on remaining natural reef formations. The project demonstrates how simple engineered habitat structures and carefully planned placement can be used as a practical tool to prevent further degradation and to assist the recovery of marine ecosystems, while simultaneously raising awareness among participants about technological approaches to protecting life below water.
