13.3.1 Local education programmes on climate
Srinakharinwirot University delivers a range of local education programmes on climate change that combine formal study, training and community-oriented learning. Under its sustainability and rankings framework, the University highlights a dedicated Bachelor of Science in Climate Change and Environmental Science, designed to produce graduates who can analyse and assess greenhouse gas emissions under the UNFCCC framework, apply climate and environmental science to reduce impacts and solve problems sustainably, and communicate and transfer knowledge of climate change and environmental management through various channels. This degree is complemented by other sustainability-oriented programmes, such as Environmental Technology and Resources, and Geography and Geoinformatics, which equip students to work on environmental and climate-related challenges in collaboration with local communities.
Beyond formal curricula, SWU organises green initiatives training and climate-focused events that function as local education programmes for staff, students and partners. The “Declaration Ceremony: Driving Srinakharinwirot University Towards Carbon Neutrality (SWU Carbon Neutrality 2040)” included special lectures on “Driving the University Towards Sustainable Carbon Neutrality” and on the “Directions and Mechanisms for Advancing Thailand’s Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Reduction Measures”, providing practical knowledge on climate mitigation policies and institutional pathways to reduce emissions. In addition, a Tree Survey Activity for Carbon Assessment offered hands-on training in observing and identifying tree species and using field techniques and tools for carbon assessment on campus, linking climate science directly to the local urban and campus environment. Through this mix of degree programmes, specialist lectures and applied training activities, Srinakharinwirot University actively provides local education on climate change risks, impacts and mitigation to its own community and surrounding society.
