11.4.6 Pedestrian priority on campus
Srinakharinwirot University has adopted the concept of designing covered walkways—roofed pedestrian corridors connecting buildings—since its early development. These walkways were originally intended not only to provide shelter from the rain but also to serve as symbolic and architectural features linking various buildings across the campus. They reflect the interconnectedness among the university’s facilities. The design emphasizes safe and practical use, complying with construction standards both before and after utilization, and adheres to the principles of universal design.
At present, Srinakharinwirot University places great importance on pedestrian movement within the campus. The university has expanded walkway routes from student dormitory zones to academic buildings and internal public transport service centers. This aims to enhance safety and promote student well-being and urban livability. The initiative aligns with SDG 11.4.6: Pedestrian Priority on Campus, emphasizing pedestrian-friendly environments and fostering sustainable urban and community development within Srinakharinwirot University.
