10.6.9 Disability access scheme

Srinakharinwirot University operates an active disability access scheme through the Disability Support Services (DSS) Center, which goes beyond basic support services to promote inclusion, participation and day-to-day accessibility for students with disabilities across the University.

1) DSS “Buddy” volunteer programme – daily accessibility support

The DSS Center runs a volunteer “Buddy” programme that recruits student volunteers to support peers with disabilities in their daily lives on campus. Buddy volunteers help students with mobility impairments who use wheelchairs and students with visual impairments to move safely around campus, travel to and from MRT/BTS stations, and access classrooms and activity spaces, ensuring equal participation in academic and co-curricular life.

2) Inclusive sports participation – Allympic Games Bangkok 2025

The DSS Center also promotes inclusive participation in sports and healthy activities. In 2025, SWU staff and students with disabilities joined the Allympic Games Bangkok 2025, a sports festival in which persons with and without disabilities compete together at Benjakitti Sports Center. This initiative helps normalise inclusion, challenge stigma, and demonstrate that students with disabilities can participate fully in mainstream university and city-wide events.

3) Academic and advocacy engagement – “Voices No One Hears: Special Populations”

SWU personnel and students with disabilities also participated in the academic conference and knowledge-exchange event “Voices No One Hears: Special Populations”, held at IMPACT Forum, Muang Thong Thani. Through this participation, the University supports advocacy, representation and knowledge-sharing on the rights, needs and lived experiences of persons with disabilities and other specific population groups, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive higher education.

These initiatives show that SWU’s disability access scheme is not limited to physical adjustments, but actively builds peer support, inclusive participation, and public advocacy to enhance access and belonging for students with disabilities.
