10.6.8 Disability support services

Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) is an inclusive university: we ensure students with disabilities can access teaching, learning, campus life, and future careers on an equal basis with others, while fostering a community where everyone belongs and contributes. Srinakharinwirot University provides dedicated disability support through its Disability Support Services (DSS) Center, operated under the Division of Student Affairs. The DSS Center serves as a central unit that coordinates support and reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities, including academic and exam-related assistance, facilitation of accessible learning resources, and adjustments to learning conditions. It also offers life guidance and counselling, as well as career counselling and preparation for future employment, to ensure that students with special needs can fully participate in university life. A satisfaction survey of students with special needs in the 2023 academic year reported an overall satisfaction score of 4.74 out of 5 (94.8%) with the support and assistance provided by the DSS Center, demonstrating both the availability and effectiveness of these disability support services. Public information about the DSS Center and its services is available on the University’s Student Affairs website.

Moreover, DSS also supports faculties and units, produces accessible learning media (including Braille and tactile materials), and lends assistive technologies and equipment such as Braille displays, screen readers and magnifiers (e.g., Screen reader software (JAWS), Braille translation software (Duxbury), and screen magnification software (ZoomText)), portable ramps, wheelchairs, and alternative input devices. The center facilitates scholarships and a trained volunteer “buddy” network, runs awareness and skills-building activities that promote disability culture and inclusive communication, and partners on universal-design improvements—ramps, tactile/Braille signage, accessible restrooms, and safe pathways. Career readiness is supported through study visits, workshops, CV/interview coaching, internships, and transition-to-employment guidance, including entrepreneurship pathways. Services are free, available in person and online, and continuously improved through regular satisfaction surveys and service reviews.
