SI 5.2 Integration of Health Promotion in Faculty-Specific Curricula

Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) demonstrates a strong commitment to integrating Health Promotion within faculty-specific curricula by embedding health, well-being, and preventive-care content directly into core and professional courses across diverse disciplines. Curriculum mapping indicates that 130 academic programmes across 22 faculties and colleges incorporate health-promotion elements within their faculty-based courses, ensuring that students in both health and non-health fields develop awareness and competencies related to physical, mental, and social well-being.

Health Promotion is not confined to traditional health faculties but is systematically integrated into arts, sciences, professional, and applied programmes, as illustrated by the following examples:

  • Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences – B.Sc. in Psychology
PG102 Introduction to Biological Psychology introduces students to the biological bases of behaviour, stress, and mental health, strengthening their understanding of how brain–body systems relate to psychological well-being and health promotion within the psychology discipline.

  • Faculty of Science – B.Sc. in Mathematics
SWU291 Healthy Lifestyle promotes holistic health literacy, preventive behaviours, and healthy living practices among mathematics students, showing how health promotion is integrated even in non-health science programmes.

  • Faculty of Fine Arts – B.F.A. in Visual Arts
SWU132 Personal Fitness focuses on physical fitness, body awareness, and healthy lifestyle habits, embedding physical health promotion within an arts-based curriculum and supporting students’ long-term well-being in creative professions.

  • Faculty of Nursing – M.N.S. in Adult and Gerontological Nursing
NAD532 Nursing Care of Adults and Gerontological Nursing with Critical, Acute and Chronic Illness integrates advanced health-promotion strategies, chronic disease prevention, and person-centred care, preparing nurses to promote health and quality of life for adults and older persons in complex clinical settings.

  • Faculty of Dentistry – Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS)
DPD531 Clinic for Dental Public Health embeds community-based oral health promotion, preventive dentistry, and population-level interventions, enabling dental students to address oral health inequities and promote community well-being through public health practice.

  • Faculty of Pharmacy – M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences
PPG746 Herbs for Health and Beauty links pharmacognosy, herbal products, and evidence-based use of medicinal plants for health and wellness, supporting innovation in safe, health-oriented pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.

  • Faculty of Agricultural Product Innovation and Technology – B.Sc. in Food Innovation and Business
FIB311 Health Food Product Innovation connects nutrition, food technology, and health promotion by guiding students to design and develop health-supporting food products, contributing to healthier consumer choices and sustainable food systems.

Through these examples, SWU shows that Health Promotion is purposefully integrated into discipline-specific teaching and professional preparation, rather than being treated as an isolated general-education topic. This approach ensures that graduates across diverse fields—arts, sciences, health sciences, and professional programmes—are equipped to incorporate health, well-being, and preventive perspectives into their future practice, thereby amplifying the University’s impact on individual and societal health.
